A Message from Our Founder: Building Hope, Healing, and Community Recovery
A message from Opado Jackson, Founder and Executive Director of MindCare Recovery Foundation, sharing the vision behind the foundation’s work in mental health awareness, youth empowerment, education, and community support in Seeta Guluma, Mukono, Uganda.
At MindCare Recovery Foundation, our work is built on compassion, service, and the belief that every person deserves dignity, support, and hope.
As the Founder and Executive Director of MindCare Recovery Foundation, I have seen how deeply mental health challenges, poverty, homelessness, trauma, lack of education, and social exclusion can affect individuals, families, and communities.
My experience working in shelter environments across Ontario, Canada, for over six years has allowed me to support vulnerable individuals facing homelessness, crisis, mental health challenges, and developmental disabilities. This work has shaped my understanding of care and strengthened my commitment to serving people with patience, empathy, and respect.
A Holistic Vision for Recovery
MindCare Recovery Foundation is based in Seeta Guluma, Mukono, Uganda. Our mission is to create a safe and supportive space where individuals and families can receive encouragement, mental health awareness, recovery support, and community-based care.
We believe healing is not only about addressing emotional pain. It is also about education, nutrition, safe environments, family support, youth development, and spiritual encouragement.
Supporting the Whole Person
Through my background as a Direct Support Professional, Nutritionist, and Food Processing Specialist, I have learned that true recovery must be holistic. Mental wellness is connected to the body, the mind, the home, the community, and the opportunities available to a person.
When someone is hungry, unsupported, isolated, or unable to access education, their emotional wellbeing is affected. That is why MindCare Recovery Foundation focuses on practical support as well as awareness and advocacy.
Youth Empowerment and Community Growth
One of the areas close to our heart is youth empowerment. We have supported young people through educational initiatives, including helping raise school fees for children and youth in need.
We also encourage sports programs in Bukedea District and Mukono District because sports help young people develop discipline, confidence, teamwork, leadership, and positive community connections.
Hope, Faith, and Service
As a faith-driven leader and evangelist, I believe that hope is powerful. Across different communities and parts of the world, I have shared messages of encouragement, faith, and restoration.
This spiritual foundation continues to inspire the work of MindCare Recovery Foundation as we serve people with love, humility, and compassion.
Our vision is to see communities where mental health is understood, vulnerable people are not forgotten, youth are supported, and families can rebuild their lives with dignity.
We want to reduce stigma, promote awareness, strengthen community support systems, and create programs that respond to the real needs of people.
MindCare Recovery Foundation is still growing, but our purpose is clear. We are here to restore hope, support recovery, empower youth, and walk with individuals and families through the challenges they face.
To everyone who believes in community healing, mental health awareness, youth development, and compassionate service, we invite you to stand with us. Together, we can build stronger communities, support vulnerable people, and create lasting change in Uganda and beyond.
